Summary:

Deseret Farms of California is seeking a skilled and experienced Mechanic III to join our Farm Operations team. This role is essential to maintaining and repairing a wide range of agricultural equipment, ensuring optimal performance and reliability across farm operations. The ideal candidate brings advanced technical expertise, strong diagnostic skills, and a commitment to safety and teamwork.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and coordinate shop employees to complete tasks efficiently, safely, and effectively.
  • Ensure timely service, maintenance, and repairs to support farm operations.
  • Diagnose and repair various farm equipment including harvesters, sprayers, PBMs, shakers, bankouts, tractors, sweepers, pruning towers, rancheros, and vehicles.
  • Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance to reduce equipment downtime.
  • Use John Deere software diagnostics for troubleshooting and repairs.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior mechanics.
  • Collaborate with Farm Unit Managers to prioritize maintenance tasks.
  • Maintain accurate records of equipment performance and service history.
  • Travel to remote or satellite locations as needed with a professional, service-oriented attitude.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent. Advanced education or industry-related training/certifications desired.
  • Valid CA driver's license and First Aid and CPR card.
  • 5+ years of experience in a farm shop or similar environment.
  • Advanced knowledge of agricultural machinery, including hydraulics, electrical systems, and powertrain repairs.
  • Proficient in diagnostics and troubleshooting using specialized software (e.g., John Deere).
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Willingness to work long hours, nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with peers and supervisors (verbal and written).
  • Bilingual English/Spanish skills a plus.
  • Able to meet the physical requirements of the role which involves, but is not limited to heavy lifting, bending, kneeling and twisting repetitively throughout work shift. Stepping up, stepping down and kneeling required. Occasional long term standing on hard surfaces during work shift. Repetitive wrist, hand and finger movement that encompasses squeezing, rotating and bending. Arm movement encompasses extension, raising and bending. Neck movement encompasses raising, rotating, forward, backward and side to side.
