Our Staff Counsel team is currently seeking a Workers' Compensation Defense Attorney who is licensed in California. The position can be remote, hybrid, or in-person. Travel for In-person Board appearances required as necessary.Position Overview:Investigates and manages Workers' Compensation cases from inception until conclusion through dismissal, settlement, or trial. Works with adjuster and clients to resolve claims as expeditiously and efficiently as possible. This is a Full Time / Exempt role.In this role, you will:Handle a caseload of Workers' Compensation casesMeet with clients and claims professionals to resolve cases in the most cost-effective mannerAnswer and develop theories and affirmative defensesEngage in routine motion practice, discovery, and researchHandle routine depositions, hearings, conferences, and TrialsTravel to the boards as requiredWhat you need to apply:Minimum 4 years litigation experienceMust be licensed to practice law in the state of CaliforniaMust have a valid driver's license, an acceptable MVR and an ability to maintain confidentialityAdmitted to the bar and must be licensed to practice law in the jurisdictions where assignedAdvocacy: Has the knowledge and ability to assist, defend or plead for anotherCommunication: Has a knowledge and ability to deliberately and precisely exchange thoughts and opinions with one or more persons and to effectively translate legal language and ideas into layman's termsOrganization Skills: Must have the ability to categorize and prioritize work and information to effectively maximize productivityDesired skills and experience:Computer literacy, including proficiency in MS Word, Lexis/Westlaw, and daily management of e-mail and calendarAble to work in a team environment with other attorneys, adjusters and other claims professionals and support staffInvestigative Skills: Has an ability to follow up step by step on inquiry or observation; to trace or track, search or examine with care and accuracy. Specifically, must take evidence that may be used in reaching a legal conclusionLegal Research: Must demonstrate the ability to locate cases, treaties, codified laws and statutes aimed at the discovery and interpretation of law and to draw a reasonable and accurate conclusion or render an opinion there fromCourtroom Skills: Has appropriate courtroom behavior, attire and decorum and is familiar with the rules and regulations that govern proceedings and conduct in courts of law or other legal forums and tribunals.
