Personal care attendant

I am hiring 2 individuals to assist with personal care, cooking, cleaning and other tasks to help me live my life as an independent disabled woman living with 2 roommates in Chico.

Shift hours per week (between 2 caregivers) include:
For the summer, I will be paying cash out of pocket until county IHSS services begin.
The hours listed below may expand to include longer day shifts or evening hours after
that service starts. You do not need to take on more hours if you don't want to, but you must register with IHSS. These are permanent PT positions. Full-time is available for 1 position after enrollment in the state program IHSS. All selected candidates will be required to enroll in the county IHSS program as a provider. This includes an in person orientation with the county.

Preferred starting schedule:
• Monday, Thursday (9am - 12pm) [3 hrs]
• Tuesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday (11am - 2pm) [3 hrs]
• Wednesday (9am – 3pm) [6 hrs]
Hours are flexible upon request.
Occasional longer shifts will be required for medical appointments or day trips with
advance notice provided.

Wage and benefits
• $25 per hour cash to start
• Gas and mileage for errands when you use your own vehicle compensated at the
federal level. IHSS wage and benefits will be discussed during the interview.

Job responsibilities
This job is to assist a woman who is in a power wheelchair with transfers, toileting,
bathing, dressing, grooming, and limited respiratory treatment support. Hoyer lift transfer device is available. Preference will be given to candidates who can safety lift up to 100 lbs.
This position's tasks also includes house cleaning (split between 3 tidy roommates),
cooking my meals on a special diet, laundry (on site), errands, occasionally driving me in a provided accessible minivan, and assistance with other tasks upon request. These other tasks may look like wound care, stretching and exercising my body, opening packages, organizing the space, decorating, arts and crafts, gardening support, and any other activity I may want to engage in.

Ideal candidate
• All candidates must be 18+, and willing and eligible to enroll in the county IHSS
program as a provider.
• Reliable and kind are the strongest attributes of a caregiver who will be
successful on my team. Please apply if you are a person who is dependable and

• Early and often communication is expected from you and will be given by me.
• A person who understands that their ability to be organized and take initiative
with routines gives my body mind rest is needed.
• LGBTQ+ and 420 friendly required.
• Clean driver's license to operate an accessible minivan.
• Your own reliable transportation for errands without me.
• Ability to work holidays preferred.

About me
After more than a decade living in New York, I am returning to California beginning July 2026 and must rebuild my care team. My role as a domestic worker employer is one I take seriously. For 20 years I have been at the forefront of the fight to ensure all domestic worker positions receive the legal rights and due respect as all hard-working human beings deserve. My caregivers typically remain with me for years.
I am retired from a career as a healthcare policy analyst and home care worker
organizer, but continue volunteer activities as a disability justice organizer. I am actively involved in leftist politics and hope to find someone who may enjoy attending political community activities with me, although it is not required.
My hobbies include reading, gardening, creating art for myself, and sunbathing.
