JOB TITLE: Occupational Therapist

WORK YEAR: Full Time /11 months/183 working days (prorated based on date on hire)/ 7.5 hours per day

START DATE: August 1, 2020

SALARY: Salary Schedule 4G, $348.03 - $539.91 daily. Stipend for license $1200 annually or Doctorate $2000 annually.

Newly hired personnel will be placed on the salary schedule applicable to their position based on verified years of experience of like licensed or permitted employment.

DEFINITION:

OT’s help students improve their ability to perform educational tasks.

Receives administrative direction from Special Education Director or designee.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:

  1. Provides occupational therapy services to students in Special Education; maintains a safe and orderly treatment area.
  2. Conducts assessments of students to determine need for occupational therapy.
  3. Collaborates with medical personnel and acts as a resource to school personnel in interpreting occupational therapy services.
  4. Reevaluates students’ individual occupational therapy goals on a regular basis.
  5. Provides reports for use in Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) committees, attends IEP meetings as necessary, and maintains progress notes on student records.
  6. Collaborates with parents regarding plans for occupational therapy services.
  7. Travels to individual school sites to provide treatment as needed.
  8. Consults and collaborates with Adaptive Physical Education Specialist regarding programs for students.
  9. Keeps accurate records when appropriate for billing purposes.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  1. Certificate of proficiency in occupational therapy issued by the American Occupational Therapist Association.
  2. Successful experience in planning and providing occupational therapy services in accredited medical centers, hospitals, clinics, and/or agencies, especially to children and adolescents.
  3. Certification in sensory integration.
  4. Post Baccalaureate degree (i.e. master’s degree or doctoral degree)

KNOWLEDGE OF:

  1. Fundamental principals and accepted trends in the field of school occupational therapy.
  2. Understanding of the physical, intellectual, social and emotional growth patterns of students.

ABILITY TO:

  1. Use a variety of modern methods, techniques, and practices in occupational therapy.
  2. Compose and comprehend written communication.
  3. Communicate effectively with students, parents and District personnel.
  4. Properly use and care for the materials, supplies and equipment employed in performing services as an occupational therapist.
  5. Work effectively with all racial, ethnic and socioeconomic groups.
  6. Travel to other sites/locations.
